Frankenstein previews start this Saturday (5 February) and our very own applebeing is going to the first preview night!!!
There are so many exciting aspects to this production:
- Danny Boyle directing and returning to the stage after too many years away
- Benedict and Jonny alternating the roles of Frankenstein and the Creature
- Underworld doing the music
- the venue being the Olivier at the National. The National is my favourite theatre in London and the Olivier is its biggest stage so it is going to be spectacular!!!
The current run (until mid-April) has already sold out at the National but the National have confirmed that they are extending the run into May. Continuing performances will go on sale in early March.
Here are a couple of articles to whet your appetite: http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2

In 20 years of going to the National Theatre I can honestly say hand on heart that THIS is the most hotly anticipated and exciting production that they have put on!!!

My icon of course is not THE COAT but is from the Harpers photoshoot where Benedict is again looking hot wearing another Black Coat.
I can't affford the original but have bought myself a long black Sherlockian winter coat (the Hobbs Tyler coat). It is very long (ankle length), black and swishy. I love the look, feel and sound of it swishing around my ankles. It is to die for!!!

Now I can go Sherlocking around London's streets!
By the way, I LOVE YOUR ICON!!!
Have you seen this?
Two glorious picture books:
The Coat: A Tale of Adventure
The Striped Jumper: A Tale of Bravery
Take a look!!!

"I've already got a dark grey knee length double-breasted coat with a high neck! I may not have Sherlock's brains, but I've got a similar coat!" Exactly. Agree. Agree. Agree!!!
I love Sherlocking around London in my Coat. And after this Saturday (Warriorbot's meet) I have badges for my Black Sherlockian Coat!!! One of the people at the meet -Laurab1 - brought free badges for everyone. They are genius. They are works of art. I got two. A Baker Street one with a Baker Street City Of Westminster sign, and a Sherlock and John silhouette. And a "Have an expensive Coat and flounce about in it" one. I took numerous photos of all the badges. RESULT. Now I have a fully accessorised up Black Sherlockian Coat and I can wear my fandom with pride. HOORAY!!!
"Giving human traits to objects has never looked so good!" Exactly. Couldn't have put it better myself!!!
I love badges and went wild for the ones Laura turned up with on Saturday!!! I love the fact that my Black Sherlockian Coat is now fully accessorised up!!!
I am not going to see the play until Friday 25 February, when Benedict is playing Victor - which is actually the part I want to see him play.
However, applebeing, who is a member of Mycrofting, is going on the opening preview night ie Sat 5 Feb and so I will ask her to post her review and reactions at some point over the weekend. She will do it under a cut so that those who don't want spoilers don't have to see it. I was originally going to see the play cold so that it was a surprise. However, I can't resist reading the many articles that there have already been about it so I might as well just give in to reading as many things as I can about it in advance of seeing it!!!
I am going to see it at the Cinema as well, although the Cinema version I am seeing has Benedict as the Creature.
Benedict as Victor is the part I wanted to see him play too - so that is the version that I chose to see twice at the theatre - once at the start of the run (end Feb) and once at the end of the run (mid April). It is always interesting to see how a play evolves over the course of the run.
Raks
I just love the National and yes it is absolutely breath-taking by night. The whole area is beautiful. There is the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, the London Eye, the Royal Festival Hall and the National. That stretch of the South Bank is actually my favourite part of London by a long long way!!!
And I always say to all the overseas contingent - COME TO LONDON!!! WE WOULD HAVE SO MUCH FUN!!!
And we have a Royal Wedding this year and the Olympics next year - I can't bloody wait!!!
If you are coming to London in May you should know that I am throwing a party for the closing night of Frankenstein over at the National. Details are here:

ja4life - Just realised that you know all about this anyway as you have commented already and I have replied. But other Mycrofting members may not know so I have posted the link anyway!!!
Wish you were here ;)

I am just about to start my write-up of the Mark Gatiss talk.
It will be on both Mycrofting and Markcroft by sometime on Friday at the latest.
I hope you enjoy it - please do comment on it when I post. I am very interested to hear what the overseas contingent think of my writing. I am doing the write-ups for you so if there is anything different that you would like let me know and I will adapt my writing accordingly!!!
Are you going to see Frankenstein at the cinema? And if yes which version are you seeing?
And I will let you know if I have questions, but I'm just really enjoying that the write-ups exist - I guess I haven't thought about 'more'.
I am going to see Frankenstein at the cinema once - and Benedict will be playing the role of the Creature. I can't wait!!!
And yes you should see both nights!!! I have my fingers crossed for you!!!
My post re the Mark Gatiss talk is now live on Mycrofting - check it out!!!
